History of Delta Delta Delta
- The first chapter of the Delta Delta Delta
fraternity, the Alpha Chapter, was founded in 1888 by
Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcus Pond at Boston University.
- "Let us steadfastly love one another"
became the fraternity's motto and the foundation
upon which its principles would grow and develop.
- Three symbols were chosen to represent the
three different stages of each member's lifetime
development:
Tri Delta at UW
Tri Delta at the University of Washington is home to over 90 talented and driven young women, all of whom possess unique qualities that contribute to the diversity and collective strength of the chapter. When we ask women to become a part of our sisterhood, we are not asking them to come and be one of us, we are asking them to come and be themselves!
THE PURPOSE OF
DELTA DELTA DELTA
shall be to establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way.

The Pearl is Tri Delta's jewel, it represents the new member because it is the one jewel that grows; developing from a tiny grain of sand into a thing of great value and beauty.
The Pansy symbolizes alumnae membership and the third step in a member's lifetime development.
The Pine is symbolic of the collegiate member because it exemplifies growth as well as lofty aspirations.
